Road ban for man found with open bottle of alcohol in car

A motorist who was caught with an open bottle of alcohol in his car has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Keijon Butterfield, 30, from St George’s, admitted to driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

The court heard that on June 4, officers spoke with Butterfield, whose car was stationary near the junction of Reid and Court Streets.

While talking to him, they smelt alcohol on his breath and saw a half-empty bottle of Twisted Tea on the driver’s side of his car.

Butterfield admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel and was taken to the Hamilton Police Station as a result.

In addition to the ban, Butterfield was fined $1,500.
