Men charged with importing cannabis

Two foreign nationals have been charged with bringing approximately $600,000 worth of cannabis into the island

Two foreign nationals have been charged with importing about $600,000 worth of cannabis into the island.

Kenrick Christopher, 56, and Johnnie Alexander, 33, were charged with conspiring to bring the drugs into Bermuda between an unknown date and November 9, when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.

As the case must be heard in the Supreme Court, the defendants, both from Grenada, were not required to enter a plea during this morning’s session.

Prosecutor Paul Wilson told the court that the men, as well as the drugs in question, were found on board a boat in local waters last week and that the matter is still being investigated by police.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson sent the case to the Supreme Court, where it will be mentioned on January 2, ordered the men to surrender their travel documents and remanded them into custody until that time.
