Driving ban after biker jumps red light

A motorist who ignored a red traffic light in Pembroke has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Paulo De Sousa Pereira, 43, admitted riding his bike while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police stopped Pereira, from Smith’s, on October 2 after seeing him speed through the light at the junction of Cavendish Road and Reid Street.

When talking to him, officers smelt alcohol on his breath and took him to Hamilton Police Station.

In addition to the ban, Pereira, who apologised to the court for the incident, was fined $1,500.
