Driver banned from roads after skipping traffic light

A man who was stopped by police on Saturday has ended up being disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Karunen Panikum, 38, admitted driving while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police stopped Panikum, from Warwick, after he disobeyed a traffic light near Front Street.

Officers smelt alcohol on his breath and took him to Hamilton Police Station.

Panikum was fined $1,500 for the offence in addition to the ban.
