Jet skier fined for refusing breath test

A man riding a jet ski who refused to take a breath test after a close call on the water was fined $2,000.

Philip Bures, 60, admitted the offence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that members of the Royal Bermuda Regiment Coastguard saw Bures almost ride over swimmers near Daniel’s Head at the West End while riding a jet ski on June 16.

Troops stopped and questioned Bures, who said he needed help getting to Somerset Bridge.

Bures, from Paget, admitted having “a few beers” before getting on the jet ski, but refused to provide a breath sample.
