Man receives seven-month roads ban

A man who admitted a series of traffic offences has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for seven months.

Christian Sousa-Matias, 25, pleaded guilty to disobeying a traffic sign and two counts each of riding a bike that was unlicensed and uninsured and without a valid driver’s licence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The Southampton resident’s court appearance came more than two years since he was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he admitted causing the death of 46-year-old Allen Trott by careless driving in September 2021.

Sousa-Matias was also riding an unlicensed and uninsured bike when the fatal collision occurred in Warwick.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos banned Sousa-Matias based on points accrued on his licence and fined him $4,200 for the offences.

In a separate case, Sergio Goater, 40, from Hamilton Parish, was fined $300 for using a handheld device while driving and had six demerit points added to his licence.
