PHC hit hard by transfers

Returning to Rec: Dean Stephens is returning to Devonshire Recreation Club after a season with PHC

The cricket transfer window closes in little more than a week and PHC look like the team that will be hardest hit by departures. So far they have lost three players from the team that won the Belco Cup and Western Counties titles last season, and have struggled to replace them.Big hitters Dean Stephens and Ricardo Brangman are leaving to return to Devonshire Rec, while Fiqre Crockwell is headed to St David's, as part of Wendell Smith's new-look team.Smith has taken the role of head coach for the upcoming season, and has been charged with helping the club win back their 50 over title from Southampton Rangers.PHC meanwhile had been linked with a move for Bermuda international Chris Foggo, however the Cup Match star told current club Devonshire Rec on Sunday that he wasn't going anywhere. Also on the move is Ryan Steede, who is going back to Bailey's Bay, while St David's spinner Tamauri Tucker is believed to be joining Rodney Trott's newly- promoted Social Club.Trott has been recruiting heavily in the off-season as he prepares his side for a return to the top-flight, although he is keeping his cards close to his chest before the window closes next Thursday.“I have (made some signings), I'm still working on a couple,” said Trott. “I've got three people for sure, all young people.“I'm working on getting another spinner to play. Most likely he will be playing for Social Club, but like I said it's just getting a couple of other things sorted out, and we should be alright.“There are some surprises though.”Also looking to strengthen his side is St George's coach Clay Smith, who said he had a couple of irons in the fire. Not on his list however is PHC wicketkeeper Jason Anderson, who had been mentioned as a possible target.Smith is confident that his side's current wicketkeeper Christian Burgess is more than ready to play in the Premier Division. “I'm sure he (Christian) is ready,” he said, “he scored 70 not out in our final Cup Match trial which showed us he can score runs at that level, he just has to work on his consistency.”
