The recipient of the 2012 Cup Match MVP Award will remain a closely guarded secret until champions Somerset or St George’s hold their awards ceremonies.According to reliable sources this year’s winner has already been chosen by the managers and coaches of the opposing teams.However, the identity of the award recipient will only be revealed when either team has their Cup Match awards ceremonies, leaving the general public to speculate on who this year’s Cup Match MVP is a little longer.Somerset, who thrashed St George’s by ten-wickets at Somerset Cricket Club earlier this month, are due to hold their Cup Match awards ceremony September 7 while according to club sources St George’s have yet to announce a date for their prize ceremony.This year saw three Somerset players and two from St George’s stand out among the crowd.Somerset skipper Jekon Edness produced an aggressive knock of 67 before retiring with severe cramp in his team’s first innings total of 271 all out. Somerset seamers Janeiro Tucker and Gregg Maybury both shone with the ball, with Tucker claiming six for 28 in St George’s first innings and colt Maybury five for 18 in the East Ender’s second innings.Veteran St George’s batsman Glenn Blakeney thumped a game high 68 in his team’s first innings total of 219 all out while off spinner Delyone Borden claimed four for 78 in Somerset’s first innings respectively.St George’s were dethroned as champions in this year’s Cup Match classic in the West End following a pathetic second innings batting display that saw them dismissed in 27.2 overs for a paltry 79, leaving Somerset to chase 27 runs for victory that was achieved off 30 deliveries.It was Somerset’s first victory since 2002 which was also achieved on their home turf.Somerset’s Chris Douglas, who stood in for injured wicketkeeper Edness during St George’s second innings, has already been awarded the coveted Cup Match Safe Hands Award for an outstanding grab behind the stumps off St George’s stalwart Blakeney.
