Smith and Waldron continue coaching education

The Bermuda Cricket Board has congratulated Clay Smith and Calvin Waldron on completing the first part of the CWI/ECB Level 3 coaching course in Antigua.

Both Smith, the Bermuda head coach, and Waldron will travel to Grenada in February to finish the practical component of the course.

Smith said: “The coaching course was intense but very informative. It covered the physical, mental, tactical and technical aspects of cricket.

“The course allowed us to catch up with some old friends and to meet some new coaches with whom we will continue to network with as we aim to improve the game of cricket in Bermuda. Between now and February we have to complete coursework, brush up on our CPR/First Aid training and conduct several practical sessions. We will travel to Grenada to take the practical testing component and I look forward to coming back and conducting several pre-season training sessions with both youth and senior captains and coaches.”

Waldron added: “What an awesome week of cricket education. The lecturers were spot-on with their information. The content, discussions and practical sessions kept us all enthused and eager to learn.”

The lecturers from the ECB were Tim Dellor, Glen Chappell, Paul Shaw, Andy Tennant, Simon Guy, Mark Garaway, Keith Tomlins and Tony Robson.

Supporting them from the West Indies were Anthony Gray, Gus Logie, Jeff Dujon and Hendy Springer.

There were special guest appearances by former West Indies Test players Courtney Walsh, Daren Ganga and Jimmy Adams.
