Rock bottom St George’s picked up only their second win in the Twenty20 competition this season, after Tomiko Wilson led their batting with 43 not out from 35 balls and captain Onias Bascome took four wickets.

Only two batsmen reached double figures for the East Enders as Wilson and Oronde Bascome (28) added 30 for the second wicket after the loss of Detroy Smith with only two runs on the board and then the departure of Okera Bascome through injury in the third over.

Wilson hit three fours and a six while Bascome hit two fours and two sixes off 15 balls. The 123 for seven St George’s posted proved to be enough as some good bowling kept Cleveland struggling for partnerships as they were dismissed for 103 with an over to spare.

Onias Bascome led the St George’s bowing with four for 28 from his four overs, including the wicket of the in-form Dean Stephens with his first ball on the second over.

Three consecutive run outs ripped through the heart of Cleveland’s batting as Makai Young, Adrian Burrows and captain Steven Bremar were run out in the space of just three overs as Cleveland slumped to 33 for four after 8.3 overs.

Young scored 21 from 23 balls while player-coach Curtis Jackson hit 14 in the middle order after he and Gary Whyte (28 not out) added 23 patient runs for the seventh wicket before Jackson departed when the score ws 73 in the sixteenth over.

Whyte faced 19 balls and hit two sixes and a four before running out of partners at the end of the innings as wicketkeeper Wilson collected a stumping and a catch as Onias Bascome picked up the last two wickets to secure the win.

Spinner Isaiah Greaves supported with two for 31 while Oronde Bascome gave up just nine runs in his three overs, taking one wicket.

Earlier, three Cleveland bowlers took two wickets each, Dennis Musson claiming two for 17 and Del Hollis and Stephens identical figures of two for 22 from four overs.
