Rodney Trott stroked an unbeaten century while Jordan Burgess and Sancho Jackson claimed five wickets between them to guide Bailey’s Bay to a 14-run win over Flatts in the One Premier Division at Lord’s yesterday.

Opener Trott gathered 119 from 129 balls, hitting 12 fours, and added 107 runs for the first wicket with Coolidge Durham (41) to lay the foundation for their team’s total of 236 for four after electing to bat.

Seam bowler Burgess then seized three for 56 and first change Jackson two for 50 as Flatts were dismissed for 222 in 49.2 overs.

“I have been in a little form the past couple of weeks and striking the ball pretty good lately,” Trott said. “I’ve been putting the hard work in and I guess this is the reward for it.

“The ball was coming on to the bat pretty good. It was a good wicket and once you get stuck in you could play all the shots in the world.”

As for his century partnership with Durham, Trott added: “That was probably our third or fourth one for the season.

“Coolridge and I have probably been the best openers for a little while and I commend him as well for his work ethic. He is also starting to reap the rewards.”

Terryn Fray (21), the captain, Jarryd Richardson (18) and Derrick Brangman (16) were the remaining Bay batsmen in double figures. Nekoda Bascome led the Flatts bowling attack with two for 55.

Flatts leaked 14 extras, including 11 wides, which ultimately came back to haunt them in the second innings.

In reply, the home side found themselves wobbling at 84 for four in the seventeenth over before the returning Kamau Leverock (61) and Coefield Robinson (32) added 89 runs together for the fifth wicket to bring their team to within striking distance of their target. However, once Burgess made the breakthrough to have Leverock caught by Fray in the covers in the 39th over, Flatts came undone at the seam with their last five wickets falling for the addition of 33 runs.

“I always felt it was going to be pressure on the other guys once Kauma got out,” Trott said.

“Once you get his wicket you feel it’s always a chance of you winning definitely.”

Top order batsman Reggie Baker (29), Kijuan Franks (22) and Regino Smith (24) and lower-order bat Dorneille Farrel (11) all made starts but were unable to go on.

Zeko Burgess, Brangman and Trott claimed a wicket each while there were two run outs.
