Jimmy Adams, the former West Indies captain, will be the guest speaker at the Bermuda Cricket Board’s annual awards ceremony for the 2019 season. The awards night will be held on November 9 at the Gosling’s Wine Cellar from 7pm. Adams, whose parents were both doctors, is the director of cricket for the West Indies Cricket Board. He made his Test debut in 1992. He played 54 Tests and had a highest score of 208 not out against New Zealand and scored 3,012 runs with an average of 41.26. The 51-year-old Jamaican played 127 one-day internationals, scoring 2204 runs from 105 innings, with a highest score of 82 and average of 28.62. The left-hander took over as West Indies captain from Brian Lara in 2000, starting with four wins and two draws in his first six matches. The team then lost seven of their next eight matches, culminating with a 5-0 whitewash against Australia, which marked the end of his Test career in early 2001. Adams played for Nottinghamshire in English county cricket and served as head coach of Kent from January 2012 to October 2016, three months before he was appointed director of cricket at the WICB.He replaced Englishman Richard Pybus, who opted not to renew his contract after serving in the role for three years. Adams’s contract is also for three years. Adams also served West Indies cricket in a various positions, including manager of the West Indies Under-19 team in 2006. In 2008, Adams was appointed technical director of Jamaica’s development programme. Last year Dion Stovell, the Southampton Rangers and Bermuda captain, won a second successive One Premier Division Most Valuable Player award, while Makai Young of First Division champions Cleveland County was voted the First Division MVP. The Premier Division and First Division champions also took the Coach of the Year honours, with Ricky Brangman, of Rangers, and Curtis Jackson, of Cleveland, winning the awards. This year, under new coach Janeiro Tucker, Rangers won both the 50 Overs and Twenty20 leagues.Tickets for the awards ceremony are $20 and include a buffet dinner.
