Somerset Cricket Club (Willow Cuts won toss): Willows Cuts beat Flatts by nine wickets.

Willow Cuts won their third game on the trot, needing only three batters to do so, as they romped to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Flatts at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Stand-in captain Ras Solomon Burrows batted throughout the innings to finish unbeaten on 45 in pursuit of a winning target of 100 runs in a match shortened to 15 overs per side owing to a late start caused by a damp pitch.

Burrows and Joseph Basden took an immediate like to the Flatts’ bowlers as they raced to a 63-run opening partnership to steer their team to victory.

Basden was the only wicket to fall having been cleaned bowled by Paul Carr-Harvey, the fifth bowler used by the Flatts’ captain Cofield Robinson for 20 runs.

Duente Darrell then joined the captain and the two put on a 42-run unbeaten partnership to carry the team to victory in 13.3 overs with Darrell smashing a six over the long-on boundary to end the game.

He made a brief but bruising 15-ball 29 runs including one four and three sixes. Carr-Harvey took the only wicket for 15 runs.

Earlier, Cuts won the toss and elected to bowl. Danger man, JJ Nel, fell on the second ball of the opening over for a golden duck as he misplayed an Antonio Darrell seamer to have his stumps pushed back.

Kijuan Franks was then joined by Dajon Carey who was run out in unfortunate circumstances.

Franks played a shot towards the mid-wicket boundary with Carey thinking the ball went for a four. They ran a single but Carey turned and walked out of his crease allowing Duente Darrell to remove his bails.

Franks and Regino Smith started to build an innings before spinner Basden was introduced.

Smith hit a maximum on the fourth ball only for the spinner to fool him with an off break on the last ball of the over enticing a simple return catch to end the power play.

Franks would then feature in a 20-run partnership with captain Cofield Robinson before he misplayed a Basden delivery to top edge giving wicketkeeper Shaquille Bean an easy catch for a team-high 20 runs.

Robinson and Gund Swadesh (17) tried to push the score along as they were running out of overs with a team-high 29-run partnership before the former was stumped by his counterpart Bean for 19, as Flatts could only score 99 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted overs.

Antonio Darrell and Basden were the pick of the Cuts bowlers with two for seven and two for 18, respectively.

“It was good to get the win as stand in captain,” said Burrows. “I am grateful for the not out and the win.”
