Sea Breeze Oval (Southampton Rangers won toss): Cleveland County beat Southampton Rangers by nine wickets

Curtis Jackson, the Southampton Rangers coach, believes better days are coming for his team despite his side suffering their second consecutive loss in the Athene T20 First Division.

Rangers were bowled out for 71 in 17.1 overs and Cleveland chased that down in just 8.2 overs with a massive 70 balls to spare.

Jackson conceded that this has not been a great season for Rangers, who finished bottom of the BCB 50 Overs Premier Division, which resulted in them getting relegated.

“This hasn't been our season,’’ Jackson said.

“Its all about learning and despite all these results, the players have stuck together, they are humble and they put up some fight.

“It can only get better and I've seen some improvement. Before you start running, first you crawl then take a few steps and then you are off running. That's where we are right now.

“I applaud these guys for effort and these guys are men, not little boys. They could have easily given up a long time ago but they keep playing, they're getting knocked down and they come back again the next week. As far as I am concerned, these guys are warriors, they're soldiers.”

Mackih McGowan, the Cleveland captain, was pleased with the win and indicated that they are looking to go unconquered in the division.

“It may look easy on paper but we still had to get the job done,’’ McGowan said.

“Two out of two, that's the stuff we looking for and we looking to keep that going. For the 50 overs we only lost to Bay, so our hopes are on an undefeated season. Another cup to try and get and put ourselves in good spirits for the county game at the end of the season.”

Somerset Cricket Club (Somerset Bridge won toss): Warwick beat Somerset Bridge by 7 wickets

Warwick registered their second win of the weekend as they made clear their intention to make the T20 portion of the cricket season vastly more successful than their 50 Overs campaign.

Bridge struggled to score with the rapidity the format demands, playing more patient than urgent, appearing set upon wicket preservation and taking few chances on a pitch made for batting.

“On a good wicket today we just didn’t maximise our scoring opposrtunities,” said Bridge captain Adrian Burrows after the match.

“We allowed a few too many dot balls and up here at Somerset, 104 is a difficult total to defend.”

Opening for Bridge, Shawn Riley and Jason Smith began cautiously and such would be the order of their batting effort.

Malachi Jones plays a fine shot for Warwick against Somerset Bridge

Smith scored eight before being bowled by Kwasi James, with the total 28 from as many balls.

Riley perished in the next over, bringing together Kieran Richardson (28) and Joshua Gilbert (19), who put on 29 for the third wicket before Gilbert was undone by Malachi Jones.

Donnie Charles came in for a whirlwind 20 not out at No. 5 to push Bridge past the century mark.

Showing no such inhibition with the bat for Warwick was Malachi Jones, whose fluency and ability to hit boundaries was on full display as he scored 44 from just 30 balls.

Jones dominated a 24-run opening partnership with Staphen Dill, who scored just 2 before he was well caught by Khymai Richards off the bowling of Shawn Riley.

Jones also fell to Riley but Cory Burgess (28 not out) and James (14 not out) saw them to victory.

“We have a very young squad and I thought we were punching above our weight in the Premier Division 50 Overs, but it was a good learning experience for them,” said Jones.

“We’re in our league now and I feel we’ll do a lot better with the youngsters having a bit more confidence in their ability to compete.

“Today’s game was pretty straightforward, 100 runs is much to ask to defend on a good batting track.

Unexpectedly, Jones was keen to offer praise to former Somerset club president Vashum Blanchette for supporting and encouraging him.

“I have to give special mention to Mr Blanchette for his continued support and encouragement, as well as his helping to improve this facility, so that it is a good venue for cricket,” added Jones.

“Somerset holds a special place for me and he’s a big reason for helping to elevate and improve things.”

Lord’s, St David’s (Devonshire won toss); Flatts beat Devonshire Rec by 67 runs

Kijuan Franks hammered an unbeaten fifty, while Jahmi Douglas and Kevin Hurdle claimed four wickets between them to steer Flatts to a convincing win over nine-man Devonshire Rec.

Wicketkeeper Franks blasted 58 from 34 balls, lashing two sixes and six fours, and led a fightback after Flatts were reduced to 53 for four in the eighth over after being sent into bat.

He added a timely 36 with Reggie Baker, 42 with Paul Carr-Harvey and 34 with Shane Robinson in an unbroken seventh wicket partnership that powered Flatts to a challenging 165 for six.

Flatts received useful contributions from their top and middle order, with Hurdle (22), Harvey (21), Jan-Johan Nel (19) and Baker (11) all making starts at the crease.

First and second-change bowlers Chris Daley (two for 24) and Drewonde Bascome (two for 35) led a wayward Devonshire attack that sent down 18 wides.

Devonshire lost three quick wickets during the chase but were still in with a shout at 80 for four midway through their innings.

However, their victory hopes were well and truly dashed after losing their remaining four batsmen for 19 runs. Douglas (two for 11) was the pick of the Flatts bowling and received solid support from Hurdle (two for 25).

Bascome (34) topped the Devonshire batting with Freeman Lema (27) and Ankoma Cannonier (19) the only others in double digits.
