Cleveland County captain Mackih McGowan scored a fantastic century as his side were confirmed as Athene T20 First Division champions on Sunday.

McGowan’s hit 103, off just 54 balls, against Devonshire Rec after coming in at No. 3 following the loss of opening batter Dion Stovell for just five .

McGowan and Treadwell Gibbons Jr put on 146 for the third wicket before Gibbons (32) was bowled by Rec captain Rudell Pitcher with their partnership helping Cleveland to 187 for seven in their 20 overs.

No Rec bowler was spared punishment from McGowan’s powerful hitting with Alafia Henry producing the best figures of two for 32 from his four overs.

In response, only two Rec batters achieved double figures with Ankoma Cannonier falling just four runs short of his half century when caught by Stovell off the bowling of Jabari Darrell and Drewonde Bascome making 14 before he was bowled by Allan Douglas Jr.

Rec limped their way to 97 for nine in their 20 overs, with Cleveland bowlers Douglas and Keith Whorms grabbing two wickets each.

Elsewhere in the First Division, Warwick Workmen’s ran out easy eight-wicket winners over Flatts at Southampton Oval.

Warwick won the toss and put their opponents into bat, with only Flatts’ JJ Nel, one of the standout performers in the division this season, offering resistance with a fine knock of 58 not out.

Flatts just managed to reach 100 before the close of their innings, finishing on 105 for seven after their 20 overs, with Warwick’s Luke Horan (three for 11) and Kwasi James (three for 23) doing most damage with the ball.

Horan also chipped in with the bat, scoring 33 before he was stumped by Dajon Carey off the bowling of Kijuan Franks, which left Warwick captain Staphen Dill to finish off Flatts with a knock of 60 not out, which came off 38 balls.

Always ahead of the run-rate, Warwick reached their target with more than four overs to spare and for the loss of just two wickets.

Southampton Rangers ended their T20 season on a high when beating Somerset Bridge by 28 runs at Somerset Cricket Club.

After being put into bat, Rangers posted a decent total of 143 for five. with five of their batters making it into double figures.

Keishon Wilson top scored with 46 before he was run out, with strong support offered by captain Dalin Richardson (26) and Akale Bean (25). Cadence Douglas was the pick of the Bridge bowlers with two for 18.

In response, Bridge were always struggling to keep up with the required rate after opener Noel Woods was bowled by Wilson for two.

Neil Thakur, Adrian Burrows and Samir Tavares all made it into the twenties but their side never looked like winning the game, finishing on 115 for six in their 20 overs.
