Bermuda Smash match rained off
The Bermuda Smash Invitational encounter between champions Hamilton Parish Hurricanes and Smith’s Sixers was washed out without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain on Tuesday.
Competition organisers made the announcement of the cancellation just after 4pm, the scheduled starting time, with bad weather making it impossible for the fixture to proceed as planned at North Field, National Sports Centre.
“Due to persistent rainfall and unplayable conditions, today’s Bermuda Smash Invitational fixture has been cancelled,” the BSI said.
“In accordance with tournament playing conditions, both teams will be awarded five points.”
Hurricanes were looking to bounce back after losing their second match to the in-form Pembroke Panthers by 54 runs on Sunday. Clay Smith’s side are second in the four-team standings with 15 points.
Sixers, who are bottom of the standings with five points, are yet to record a win in the third edition of the competition. Clevie Wade’s team started their campaign with a seven-wicket defeat to Panthers on Saturday before they went down by a similar margin to Sandys Spartans the next day.
Weather permitting on Wednesday (4pm), Panthers, who are on top with 20 points, have a chance to cement their position at the summit. They clash with Spartans, who are third in the table with ten points.
Organisers of the tournament will announce the semi-final fixtures at the conclusion of the group stage on Wednesday. The matches to decide the finalists are scheduled for Friday before the title is decided the following day.
