With Bermuda almost certain to finish on top in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier, coach Cal Waldron plans to shuffle around the team for the final match against Brazil at North Field, National Sports Centre, on Saturday (3pm).

Waldron’s side lead the five-team group with five points and a superior net run-rate of 8.680. Panama are on the same number of points but have finished their matches, while the winner of the encounter between Bahamas and Belize, who square off in the first match on the final day (10.30am), have a chance of finishing on five points but stand no chance of accomplishing a better net run-rate than the home team.

Indications are that players such as Zerai Tomlinson, Nzari Paynter and Chare Smith, who have not featured in the tournament so far, will get a chance when Bermuda face Brazil.

“With qualification pretty much wrapped up, we may look at bringing in a few other players to give them a game and getting the atmosphere in the competition,” Waldron told The Royal Gazette.

“We are going to have a conversation as team management about how we do that without upsetting the balance of the team. The guys that are doing good, they might still want to be able to continue.

“We still got one more game to play here and we still want to finish on a winning note. We’re going to continue to play positive cricket, not taking the opposition for granted and not looking to come play sloppy cricket.

“We still want to remain professional and play positive cricket like we did against Belize and Panama.”

Captain Terryn Fray, who challenged the fans to come out in their numbers, also pointed to the possibility of adjustments to the playing XI.

“We will look to make some changes and give a couple of guys a game against Brazil,” Fray said.

“The crowds haven’t been that great so far in this tournament. We understand that people have work and other commitments during the week, but we are urging Bermudians to come out and support the team on Saturday. Hopefully, we can entertain them and lift the trophy in front of a good crowd.”

Bermuda’s bowlers have completely dominated the opposition batters in the two matches, laying the foundation for comfortable ten-wicket victories.

They restricted Belize to 45 for seven in a match reduced to 12 overs on Monday, before the batters knocked off the required runs in 5.3 overs.

On Thursday, Panama came into the encounter with their tails up after defeating Brazil and Bahamas, but were wiped out for 69 with Bermuda reaching the target in 4.3 overs.

Derrick Brangman and Dominic Sabir are the joint leading wicket-takers in the tournament with five each.

Delray Rawlins, who smashed Bermuda’s fastest half century in T20 Internationals with a blistering 17-ball 52 runs against Panama, is fourth on the list of run-getters, led by Alexander Oxley, of Belize. Oxley’s unbeaten 80 in his team’s victory over Brazil on Wednesday is the highest individual score of the five-team tournament.
