Police cannot confirm alleged road chase detailed in email

Residents have been warned to keep car doors locked and windows shut while driving by one person allegedly chased at high speed by an unknown motorist. The warning comes after police reported a pair of men on a motorcycle robbed several motorcyclists while wielding what appeared to be a firearm. An e-mail now circulating warns that car drivers should also take precautions when driving in isolated areas at night. The writer of the e-mail said he was “accosted” by someone on a motorcycle but was able to escape during a high-speed chase through Smith’s.The e-mail reads: “I had thought that these incidents had been isolated to attacks on other motorcyclists, however my car was accosted by a motorcyclist at about 11pm [last] Saturday as I was paused at a junction with South Road, opposite St Mark’s Church.“I pulled out quickly onto South Road but was horrified to find the motorcyclist [had pulled] out after me and proceeded to chase me at high speed along South Road, making a beeline for the driver’s side door of my car.“Luckily my little Suzuki found the ‘Ferrari within’ and I managed to keep just ahead of the bike so he (she?) couldn’t reach my door.“I was chased along South Road, over Knapton Hill and down Harrington Sound Road, at which point the bike disappeared, I assume because we had reached a more populated stretch of road.”The writer goes on to advise drivers to lock their car doors and windows when driving at night and “playing a bit of [racing video game] Gran Turismo”.A police spokesman said officers were aware of the e-mail.He said: “At this time we cannot confirm whether or not the incident has been reported to the police as there is not enough information on when it may have occurred to ascertain that from the message itself.“However, anyone with any information about this alleged incident is encouraged to contact detectives on 295-0011 if they have not done so already.”Useful website: www.bps.bm.
