Violent incident at hospital involving weapon

Police attended an violent altercation involving two men and a bladed article at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital this evening.

At about 5pm, officers responded to the reported incident during which a 35-year-old man and 28-year-old man were injured, both suffering injuries that were not life-threatening. The younger of the two men has been arrested, according to the Bermuda Police Service.

A police spokesman said that an update on the 35-year-old man’s condition will be provided in due course.

The scene was processed by the relevant police personnel and inquiries continue.

The Bermuda Hospitals Board said: “BHB can confirm there was an incident between two visitors in a public area of the general wing of KEMH.

“Police have attended. It is safe for people to attend Emergency tonight and we will be operating as normal tomorrow.

“The incident is now under investigation by the police and queries about the incident should be directed to them. We thank the police, security working at BHB and our staff for their response and can confirm that all patients are safe.”
