A man wielding a meat cleaver in public was yesterday arrested, police confirmed.

Officers were alerted to the suspicious behaviour around 3pm after a man was seen at Hamilton Bus Terminal with a large bladed item.

Police arrived at the terminal, where they were informed the man had boarded a bus bound for Dockyard via Middle Road.

Officers located and tailed the bus until a man fitting the description disembarked near the Bermuda Institute in Southampton.

Police approached the suspect, a 32-year-old Warwick man, and informed him that he would be searched.

They found a meat cleaver in his waistband and arrested him without incident for possession of a bladed article.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call 211 or the main police number, 295-0011.
