Man arrested on suspicion of having burglary tools

A man was arrested after reports of an attempted burglary in Hamilton at the weekend.

A police spokesman said that officers received a report of “suspicious sounds” above La Trattoria on Washington Lane.

The witness explained that a man had smashed the glass door to Sidekicks Sports Shop at about 2am last night before he fled the scene when he realised he was being watched.

Officers saw a man fitting the description drive a car out of the rear of City Hall.

They stopped the vehicle and conducted a search, where they found bolt cutters, a crowbar, and a ski mask in the front passenger seat.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of possession of tools for burglary.

The vehicle was also impounded after a search reveal it was unlicensed and uninsured.
