A person of unknown gender was taken to hospital with a suspected leg injury in the wake of shots being fired last night in the parking lot of the Southampton Rangers Sports Club.

A police spokesman said reports came in of gunshots at roughly 8.20pm.

Details were scant, and the spokesman could not confirm whether the injured person’s injury could be attributed to gunshot wounds.

However, he said that forensic evidence retrieved at the scene indicated that a firearm had been discharged.

The spokesman noted the presence of CCTV cameras in the vicinity and said that area residents “can be assured that the Bermuda Police Service have the matter in hand”.

Anyone with potential information has been urged to call the main police number, 295-0011, or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.

The public can also approach a familiar police officer or use the police portal online.
