Club disputes reported assault took place on its premises
Executives of a Hamilton Parish club have denied claims that a man was assaulted on its property last month.
Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club executive committee issued a statement on Saturday, days after police said a 47-year-old man was seriously assaulted at the club at about 1.30am on March 28.
The statement on social media said: “For the avoidance of doubt, we state unequivocally that this incident did not occur on the grounds of Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club, nor is [the club] is any way connected to the matter under investigation”.
It added: “Any implication or association of this incident with Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club is inaccurate and misleading.
“We take this matter seriously given the potential reputational impact such reporting may have.”
The statement added that “antisocial, violent or unlawful behaviour of any kind” is inconsistent with the club’s values and will not be tolerated.
It concluded: “We remain fully committed to ensuring a safe, secure and respectful environment for all members, staff and visitors.”
Police said this month that officers obtained footage of the incident, which is under investigation, through social media and urged anyone who recorded or may have information about it to reach out.
Witnesses can contact Acting Detective Seymour Foote on 247-1154, 717-2282 or sfoote@bps.bm.
They can also contact 295-0011 or 211, the Confidential Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 or speak to an officer they trust.
The Royal Gazette contacted police and the club for further information, but has yet to receive a response.
