Riders represent Bermuda at Pan Am Cycling championships

Nic Narraway and Kaden Hopkins on a training ride in Colombia

Bermuda’s cyclists are gearing up for the Pan American Road Cycling Championships this week.

Nic Narraway, Kaden Hopkins and Gabriella Arnold will represent the island in Monteria, Colombia, with the championships bringing together top cyclists from across the Americas, providing a high level of international competition in both time trial and road race disciplines.

Hopkins and Narraway will be the first to take to the road on Thursday in the elite time-trial and the road race on Sunday, with Arnold competing on Saturday in the elite women’s road race.

This will be the first time Hopkins has raced competitively since fracturing his collarbone in a training fall in Spain last month. A quick recovery from an operation which included five screws being inserted in the bone has enabled him to take his place in the starting line-up.

The team is supported on the ground by Dominique Mahyo, who is serving as team manager and mechanic and attended the official team managers’ meeting in advance of competition.

Bermuda Bicycle Association president Peter Dunne is also in Colombia to support the team and is representing Bermuda at the COPACI Congress

Selection to the Pan American Road Cycling Championships represents a significant achievement, with athletes earning the opportunity to compete against the strongest riders from across the Americas. Returning to this level year after year reflects both performance and consistency on the international stage.

At the 2025 Championships, Bermuda’s elite men delivered strong results in the Individual Time Trial, with Kaden Hopkins finishing seventh and Nicholas Narraway placing tenth in a highly competitive field. In the Elite Women’s competition, Gabriella Arnold gained valuable experience racing against top regional talent in both the Individual Time Trial and Road Race.

The Championships take place early in the international racing calendar, presenting an additional challenge as riders continue to build form and endurance ahead of a full season of competition. With several key events ahead in 2026, this week of racing provides an important benchmark in their ongoing development.

Racing will be broadcast live via the YouTube channel of RTN, providing supporters in Bermuda and around the world with the opportunity to follow the Championships.
