Avoid the UK tuition hike transfer to Scotland

Bermudian students affected by fee hikes at UK universities may be able to take advantage of Scotland’s lower tuition next year.Tuition costs for the coming academic year are set to triple in the UK while Scotland’s universities are to remain government-funded.Of the 31 UK universities that recently announced their 2012 tuition fees, 27 were in the range of $13,000 to the $14,640 maximum.A Bermudian attending Liverpool John Moores at the home rate paid about $5,400 last year. That fee is about to rise by nearly $10,000.However, at Scotland’s University of Edinburgh, an undergraduate will pay $3,000 per annum this coming year. For one year as a graduate student, the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Edinburgh will cost $8,600.At the University of Glasgow, the standard coming year fee for a graduate diploma at the College of Social Sciences would add up to $5,125 at the home rate; an MBA, however, costs $22,000.Total cost of attendance at prestigious Brown University for this academic year was $40,000 for tuition with boarding, books and other fees totted together, it would cost a Bermudian nearly $55,000 while for a new nonresident taking an MBA at the University of Texas at Austin, the cost is $21,500.
