Some schools close, some stay open on May 25

Public school students will enjoy a four-day weekend next week, but their teachers will be taking part in professional development exercises.A Ministry of Education spokeswoman said yesterday that public schools will not have class next Friday, saying: “May 25th is one of the negotiated professional development days for staff arranged in consultation with both the ASP and the BUT and is in keeping with our Collective Bargaining Agreements.“In addition, notice of such days are communicated as part of the school calendar at the beginning of each school year.”While some private schools, including the Bermuda Institute and Mount St Agnes said they will also close on Friday, other schools will have class as usual.Among the schools remaining open are Saltus, Warwick Academy, Bermuda High School and Somersfield Academy.
