Bermuda Is Love hands out school clothing to families in need
A community organisation gave away uniforms to children attending several schools as part of a clothing drive for families in need.
Bermuda Is Love hosted its School Clothing Giveaway at Purvis Primary School on Saturday from 10am to 2pm and distributed second-hand uniforms for pupils of Warwick Academy, Mount St Agnes Academy, Saltus, Paget Primary School, Port Royal Primary School and Harrington Sound Primary School among others.
Aaron Crichlow, the founder of Bermuda Is Love, said: “There was a good turnout with steady numbers coming in throughout the day. They got what they needed. We had a range of school clothes including shorts, long pants, shirts and skirts.
“It was an important event. For us, the first part is to provide clothing to kids in need — we simply don’t want students to go to school without the right attire.
“The second part is our campaign encouraging the public not to buy new clothes during the month of September — it is about confronting people’s buying habits and encouraging them to look for second-hand options, reaching out to friends and family and swapping clothes before going out and buying new clothes.
“It saves you the cost of buying new clothes and reduces your carbon footprint.”
Mr Crichlow wished to thank the other members of Bermuda Is Love who were also involved in the collection of clothes and Saturday’s giveaway — Courtney Clay, Eli Smith, Eron Woods, Sharri Weldon and Deondre Trott.
This is the second giveaway organised by the group. The first was held at The Berkeley Institute as part of a Future Leaders Bermuda community give-back day.
