Port Royal Primary celebrates 90 years
A fair this weekend will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Port Royal Primary School.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Association is organising the event on Saturday and in the process has created an alumni association for former students and staff to reconnect.
Gary Simons, Port Royal PTA president, explained: “[The alumni association] is also a way whereby people can give back to the school in regards to their time or joining a volunteer team.
“The website, portroyalalumni.com, went live about two weeks ago and about 25 people have signed up so far.”
School alumni Dame Flora Duffy, the Olympic gold medal-winner, scientist Carika Weldon and reinsurance executive Patrick Tannock support the new association.
Alumni who register by Saturday will receive a commemorative mug at the fair, which will take place at the school in Southampton from 4pm to 8pm.
Mr Simons added: “We hope to reconnect with many alumni at the fair and give them some benefits in order to continue celebrations for the rest of the year.
“We are going to form a team to determine exactly what that would be during the summer and have the celebrations when we get back.”
