An investigation has been launched after a schoolgirl was allegedly left unattended and ended up off school grounds.

The incident, said to have occurred yesterday, involved a student at Port Royal Primary School, TNN reported.

The news outlet said the girl was told to sit on a bench after being injured during a physical education class and reached out to the stranger to help find her teacher and class-mates who had left the area.

The online news site stated that a family friend then saw the child walking with the man off-campus and informed her mother.

A government spokeswoman told The Royal Gazette: “The Ministry of Education is aware of an incident involving a student at Port Royal.

“The safety and security of our students, teachers and staff are paramount.

“Accordingly, an internal investigation has been launched and the ministry will take all necessary actions based on its findings.”
