With Good Friday on April 3 signifying the approach of kite season, Belco has launched its annual kite safety poster competition for P1 and P2 students.

The deadline is March 13, with one entry taken per child. Submissions must be on 8.5in by 11in paper, either photographed or scanned and e-mailed to communications@belco.bm or delivered to the power company at 27 Serpentine Road, Pembroke.

Krista Barnes, Belco’s director of communications and corporate strategy, said the contest engaged youngsters in promoting safety around power lines while showcasing their creativity.

She added: “With the deadline just days away, we encourage all eligible students to submit their entries.”

The annual competition, a tradition of its own, highlights the dangers of flying kites near power lines, which can cause power outages and pose serious safety risks.

Prizes this year include:

• Best overall poster: $200 toy voucher, $200 Belco gift card

• Best kite safety message: $100 toy voucher, $100 Belco gift card

• TD & R choice award: $100 toy voucher, $100 Belco gift card

• Most beautiful: $100 toy voucher, $100 Belco gift card

• Best use of mixed media: $100 toy voucher, $100 Belco gift card
