The Premier’s Concert returned last night, with David Burt taking the stage to tell guests that the night’s performances would also serve — for the first time — as a tribute to Bermuda’s National Heroes.

“I’m incredibly grateful we can enjoy this concert in person again, and experience some of the best of Bermuda’s creativity first-hand,” Mr Burt said, after the 2021 concert had to go virtual because of Covid-19 restrictions.

The showcase of Bermudian talent, in existence since 1985, had to be postponed in 2020.

At the front row in the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium at CedarBridge Academy was National Hero and former premier Sir John Swan.

Sir John sat beside Mr Burt as the evening’s presentations came interspersed with video tributes to each of the island’s National Heroes who “left lasting impressions in the history and culture of the island”, the Premier said.

“This gives us the opportunity and the pleasure to experience the talented Bermudians in whom this Government is proud to invest.”

Besides Sir John, family members of other Bermudian icons joined guests.

Mr Burt added: “These women and men helped shape our society and lead our country through historic changes.”

The live line-up for the night opened with Jay III and dancers Sacha Dill with Antoine Williams, followed by Dennajye Paynter on piano.

Performances followed by Jesse Seymour, T’aja Williams, Brixx, Tiffany Paynter, Rated E! Dance Crew, and Arijahknow Live Wires.

Video presentations highlighted the artists Melanie Eddy, Ami Zanders, Gherdai Hassell and Sabriyya Harvey.
