Family of Schools talent show spotlights diverse youth talent
The Department of Education has announced a series of youth-focused talent shows to serve as a follow-up to a successful art showcase.
The Family of Schools invited pupils from 26 public and private schools to show off their performance skills under the theme of “One World, Many Stories”.
It comes on the heels of the Spring into the Arts Senior School Showcase, which highlighted the older pupils’ musical and dance skills.
Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education, said: “Spring into the Arts reminds us what’s possible when our young people are given the space to create, express and be heard.
“‘One World, Many Stories’ reflects the richness of voices across our school communities and these showcases offer a special opportunity for students to share who they are through their art.
“I encourage everyone to come out, support our students and enjoy the creativity and talent that continue to flourish in our schools.”
The shows will offer narratives shown through visual art, music, dance and theatre.
They will also celebrate the work of former educators such as Dale Butler, Joseph Christopher and Shangri-La Durham-Thompson.
Kalmar Richards, the Commissioner of Education, said the proceeds of ticket and raffle purchases would go towards the arts programmes of participating schools.
She said: “By attending these showcases, the public isn't just watching a performance — they are supporting the growth of the arts in our classrooms.”
The Central Family of Schools showcase will take place on Thursday, with the western schools showcase happening on May 7 and the eastern schools showcase happening on May 28.
All shows will take place between 6pm and 9pm at the Ruth Seaton James Centre for Performing Arts on CedarBridge Academy’s Devonshire campus.
Admission is $5 for all attendees and must be paid in cash.
A full list of participating schools can be found on the Ministry of Education’s website.
