An annual children’s nature walk inside the island’s biggest nature preserve has a new corporate partner.

In a release issued Sunday, the Bermuda National Trust said that Arch Capital Group would now be sponsoring the annual Children’s Nature Walk event at Spittal Pond for the next three years.

The walk is attended by hundreds of students each year. This year’s event takes place on Thursday, February 16, from 9.30am to noon.

“We are thrilled that Arch has agreed to support this event, which has introduced thousands of children to the environment over more than 30 years,” Bill Zuill, executive director at the National Trust, said in the release.

“Arch is very delighted to partner with the National Trust,” Arch Capital Holdings senior underwriter Paula Lewin echoed. She described the walk as a “fantastic event” that allows children to learn in a real-life classroom.

“We welcome the opportunity to help the National Trust continue to promote Bermuda’s precious environmental heritage.”

“There is substantial research to show that children learn better and absorb much more when they experience learning outside of the classroom,” Dr Dörte Horsfield, Trust educational director, said. “There is no better way for children to learn about nature and the environment than through experiences like the annual nature walk.

“But it is not possible to put on these kinds of events without financial support and we are very grateful that Arch has committed to support this effort over a number of years.”
