The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will be marking World Oceans Day with a series of events this weekend.

The celebrations start tomorrow with a screening of the classic 1966 surfing film The Endless Summer, which showcases stunning locations around the world in the search for the perfect wave.

The film will be introduced by local surf expert Ian “Cheesy” Bridges and concludes with a panel discussion featuring members of Bermuda’s surfing community.

The event starts at 6.30pm and tickets cost $35.

On Saturday, the BUEI will hold an open house between 10am and 3pm with free admission to visitors.

The institute has teamed up with the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation and Keep Bermuda Beautiful to provide a number of activities, including a scavenger hunt, plastic art workshops and interactive marine science education activities.

Another film, Chasing Coral, will be shown at 3pm on Sunday, World Oceans Day. The documentary highlights the urgent need to address environmental issues affecting the oceans.

Admission is free but space is limited, and attendees are advised to reserve a seat through the BUEI website.

The events wrap up at 6pm on Monday with an illustrated talk by bestselling author Hampton Sides on the life and death of Captain James Cook, one of Britain’s greatest navigators.
