Entries open for environmental journalism contest
Young people aged between 11 and 25 are encouraged to showcase their storytelling, interviewing or film-making skills during the Young Reporters for the Environment national competition.
The 2026 contest, organised by the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, centres on the theme of food security and climate change.
A BUEI spokeswoman said: “Climate change is already influencing how food is grown, produced and distributed, with impacts ranging from extreme weather affecting crops to changing ocean conditions that influence fisheries.
“For island communities like Bermuda, these challenges highlight the importance of sustainable food systems, responsible consumption and innovative solutions that can strengthen resilience.”
She added: “Through YRE’s four step methodology — investigating an environmental issue, researching solutions, creating a media piece and sharing it with the community — students develop critical thinking, communication and storytelling skills while becoming informed advocates for the environment.”
All contest entries must be submitted by Thursday and winners in the article, photography, podcast and short film categories will represent Bermuda at the YRE international competition.
