In-form Clarke notches four more wins

Winning is fast becoming a habit for college kid Darico Clarke. For the second week in a row the 20-year-old harness driver won four heats on three different horses to bask in the limelight at Vesey Street. The Bermuda College freshman got off to a flyer after driving Joseph Viera’s colt Stay Tuned and Johnny Paynter’s mare Sure Grand to victory lane in his opening two heats competing in the 1.09/4- 1.1¼ and 1.05-1.06/1 time bars respectively. He then went on to win two additional heats in the 1.05-1.06/1 time bar with Bermuda Bred track record holder Time After Time to cap another dominant display at the race track.Clarke reckons the hard work and dedication he has put in behind the scenes is finally beginning to pay dividends.“It seems as though winning is starting to get easy,” he said, with a grin. “Maybe the hard work and dedication is beginning to pay off because it’s not easy to come away with four wins.“I really don’t know what to say . . . .it’s just déjà vu and I really can’t complain about the results. I am really pleased with the results I have been getting as of late.”Clarke entered the last round of racing on a high after chalking up four wins the previous weekend on the same three horses.Meanwhile, picking up three wins was Cameron Harris on Track Patrol, Here Comes Shady and GV Speed Demon who lived up to its name. Harris’ treble of wins arrived in the 1.05-1.06/1, 1.07/3-1.09/3 and 1.06/2-1.07/2 time bars respectively.Among last weekend’s double heat winners were Isaiah Tavares (Mercedes Spence), Zinho Cooper (Return to Sender), Thomas Whited (American Treat and Just Like That) and Colin Mello (Big Red Machine).Mello’s stud, which currently holds the track record (1.02 flat), swept the Free for All ‘A’ with a fastest time of 1.04/1 in the first heat.Posting the day’s overall fastest time of 1.03/2 was Jason Lopes at the helm of Captain Progress in the Free for All ‘B’ while EJ Carreiro’s filly Hott Gossip posted the fastest time (1.10/3) by a two-year-old for the season in the 1.14/1-1.16/1 time bar respectively.Making their debut at the track in the 1.12-1.14 time bar was Brandon Lopes in the sulky of David Lopes’ mare LA Erma Time.
