An nine-strong team of Bermuda show jumpers are gearing up to compete in the 46th edition of the FEI Jumping World Challenge.

The competition is made up of three separate events, which all taking place at the National Equestrian Centre, starting on Sunday and followed by events on February 24 and March 23, with competitors jumping two rounds in their respective height division.

Team and individual classifications will be offered over three height categories, with Jaylynn Hines riding her gelding, Toto D’ysenbeeck Z in Category A over 1.2 to 1.3 metres.

Vicki Steel riding In the Stars, Tyler James on Cruise Control and McKeisha Smith on-board Da Vinci will be in action in Category B at 1.1 to 1.2 metres, while Category C, which is set at 1.0 to 1.1 metres, will include Abby Bardgett on Up, Up and Away, Michael Rodrigues riding Rambo, Courtney Bromby on-board Worth the Wait, Alex McMartin riding Hornelli and Sierra Wolffe on Farsi Forza.

Level 1 Judge Pam Mahoney of Bermuda will assess the first two competitions, with Level 2 judge John Flisk, of the USA, joining forces with Mahoney to adjudicate the third.

The Challenge provides local showjumping equestrians with an opportunity to compete in an international setting without the expense or logistical challenges of travelling overseas.

Riders from ten different geographical zones compete over the same jumping courses designed by an appointed course designer, who this year is Kate Launder, of South Africa.

The first jumping class on Saturday is scheduled to commence at 10am.
