St John Ambulance Bermuda is ready to serve as the main first aid provider at this weekend’s America’s Cup event.

Chairman Justin Williams said yesterday that the registered charity were pleased to be involved in the international event, saying: “St John will be providing three ambulances to be in position and on call, on Front Street and at Number 8 dock.

“St John personnel will be on the water with the police and other emergency services and will have a member in the command centre in Hamilton. Teams of St John’s volunteers, with Red Cross volunteers working alongside them, will also be on foot patrols on Front Street. Our volunteers have been training vigorously and look forward to serving during this important event for Bermuda.”

The charity receives requests to attend more than 200 community events every year, including triathlons, fairs, church gatherings and sporting events such as the Rugby World Classic and the International Race Weekend.

St John commissioner Gareath Adderley added: “Throughout these events, and the supporting administration and documentation, our volunteer membership contributed over 10,000 man-hours to ensuring the health and safety of the Bermudian public. We stand ready to serve the community and the participants in the America’s Cup in the forthcoming event ”
