Live Wires set for album launch tonight
One Bermudian plans on using the America’s Cup to his advantage this evening by launching his new album live on stage at the AC Jam.
Mitchelle Trott, also known as Live Wires, has been working on a compilation of old and new songs since April, and decided there was no better time to launch it than while the world’s eyes were on Bermuda. The artist is also in negotiations to get the album sold in the official America’s Cup store. Mr Trott is set to perform with celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson’s house band The Kings this evening alongside international artists Maxi Priest and Shaggy.
The EP titled Reggae Highway features a mix of Island sounds from roots reggae to jazz on dub and a genre the artist calls rebel soca.
It includes one song featuring the late Bermudian singer Star Child as well as another song with the Bermudian Yellow Brick Road band written by James Richardson.
Two new tracks are soca anthem On The Road and the title track Reggae Highway.
Mr Trott told The Royal Gazette: “All we have been talking about is how Bermudians can benefit from the America’s Cup. I am a Bermudian artist and I will capitalise on the opportunity.
“It is not my first time performing with international artists — I have been doing this a while. But for Bermuda, with the magnitude of the America’s Cup and the coverage it will get, I thought I might as well take advantage of the opportunity that has been presented to me and pull in a couple of my colleagues from the DIA Band to help me to pull this off as The Kings band.”
Live Wires is known for his baritone voice and high-energy tap-dancing showcases.
His music reflects his philosophy on the power of art and the importance of quality messages. He said: “Quality music delivers positive vibrations that make you feel, make you think, make you move. I always wanted to make sure that I had quality music with substance that meets my standard and lets my spirit and conscience be at ease.”
Reggae Highway was produced with a cast of producers and musical backing including Jamaican reggae heavy hitters Shane Brown, Bongo Herman and Sly Dunbar.
Locally, Trott gives credit for the EP’s production values to a mix of local engineers, primarily Noreco “Rico Don” Burgess who served as engineer and co-producer on the project.
The CD is available for sale for $20 at locations around the Island including Marcus’ restaurant. The America’s Cup Jam takes place at car park No 1, with gates opening at 7pm.
