A night of culinary delights prepared by the island’s hotel industry has been added to the line-up for the twelfth edition of the Taste of Bermuda food festival.

Dennis Tucker, the Acting Mayor of Hamilton, said that for four days from October 9, the city would become a “vibrant stage for bold flavours, dynamic entertainment and immersive culinary experiences”.

He said: “This year’s festival promises four unforgettable days filled with something for every palate and every age, from an elegant dinner under the stars, to a family-friendly street festival packed with energy.

“Taste of Bermuda has grown, not only in size but certainly in scope.”

Mr Tucker said that the City was proud to welcome the Bermuda Hotel Association as a new partner in the annual event.

The BHA will spearhead Tastemakers a new event on October 9, which Mr Tucker said “expands taste beyond the city and into some of Bermuda’s premier hotels”.

Dwayne Caines, the chief executive of the City of Hamilton, said that Tastemakers would take place across Cambridge Beaches, Azura Bermuda, the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, the Reefs and the Rosedon Hotel.

He explained: “Each property will host an exclusive dining event showcasing their executive chef or visiting culinary talent.

“It is a bold new step that extends Taste of Bermuda’s footprint and creates opportunities that highlights our island’s hospitality industry like never before.”

On October 10, a bartending competition will be held at Bacardi’s international headquarters and on October 11, guests will dress up for the City Hall All-White Ball.

Mr Caines said an “unforgettable moonlight dining experience” was promised at the night-time event on the grounds of City Hall, where Mapy, an award-winning international violinist, will perform.

Known globally as the Violin Queen, the musician has played with some of the top names in the music industry such as Beyoncé and Snoop Dogg.

“Her high-octane mixes of classical violin, Afro beats and hip-hop will captivate audiences with intensity and soul”, Mr Caines said.

He added that sway pole dancers would also give “breathtaking” performances.

The festival will culminate on October 12 with a free, open-air tasting village at City Hall’s parking lot and front lawn.

Mr Caines said: “This year we are highlighting the island’s diverse cultures with dishes inspired by Bermuda’s Portuguese, Filipino, Caribbean, East Indian, Italian and, of course, Bermudian roots.”

Clarence Hofheins, the BHA president, said that the association was delighted to take part in the event.

He said: “We are honoured that the corporation invited us to take part in this year’s programme and we hope that this collaboration is just the beginning of something even bigger for the island’s food and beverage scene.”
