Another event has been added to next year’s already crowded sailing calendar.

The America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta has been pencilled in for June 13 to 15, just ahead of the 35th America’s Cup.

Superyachts longer than 24m LOA, as well as J Class yachts, will battle it out for the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta Trophy, which is presently held by Adela, who won the event in San Francisco in 2013.

The J Class have confirmed their participation and will join an extensive fleet of superyachts, both sail and power, that are expected to descend on the island for the America’s Cup.

The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club will host the regatta in conjunction with Boat International Media and the America’s Cup Event Authority.

“We are proud to be involved in the first superyacht regatta to come to Bermuda,” Leatrice Oatley, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club commodore, said.

“We understand the tremendous opportunity the America’s Cup is bringing to the island and are thrilled to be adding this event to our legacy of promoting the sport in Bermuda.”

The action in May and June next year is due to begin with the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup qualifiers and challenger play-offs, which run from May 26 to June 12.

The superyachts will then take over before the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup Finals on June 21 and 22.

It all wraps up with the main event, the America’s Cup Match which will take place on June 17 and 18, and from June 24 to 27.

“The America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta is sure to add to the experience for all in Bermuda next year, ensuring this will be one of the best America’s Cups we’ve seen to date,” Sam Hollis, of the ACEA, said.

The America’s Cup World Series meanwhile returns to Portsmouth later this month for the fourth of this year’s regattas.

The English city will host the teams from July 24 to 26, with events in France and Japan due to take place in September and November respectively.
