Somerset Trojans fired nine goals past Corona League side Terrace Onions to advance in the FA Cup at a scorching Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Paris Robinson, Jaden Ratteray-Smith and Keyni Mills each scored twice, with Tahj Wade, Rychus Symonds and Jadon Simmons netting the others.

Trojans started poorly in possession, allowing their inferior opponents to gain territory for the opening 15 minutes, but despite playing their way into the attacking third on an a number of occasions, Onions failed to trouble the home defence.

Somerset eventually found the intensity and tempo needed to break down Onions and had a golden chance to open the scoring. Kee-Zai Cann and fellow winger Keyni Mills exchanged intricate passes before the latter cut inside and fired a powerful strike just over the bar.

The home side found the opening goal in the nineteenth minute, with Paris Robinson getting forward from defensive midfield to fire low past goalkeeper Chris Kierans after a cross by Mills was poorly cleared by the Onions back line.

Trojans continued to pile on the pressure thereafter and Mills hit the post after being fed into space by captain Ratteray-Smith. Two minutes after Mills struck the woodwork, Robinson had his second. His ability to get forward paid dividends again when he calmly stroked home the third rebound after efforts by Wade and Mills were blocked.

Mills then got in on the scoring spree when Jaire Shields played forward to the winger on the left and he drifted into space to fire low into the far corner past the diving effort of Kierans.

Wade scored the best goal of the match ten minutes before half time. Jaellan Greaves played into the striker, who dropped into a pocket to link the play. However, he had other ideas as he drove past one Onions midfielder and placed his shot with the outside of his boot into the far bottom corner.

The First Division side made it five just before the break, with Greaves playing forward for Shields. He fed Ratteray-Smith, who drifted inside and fired into the bottom corner.

Onions had their best period of the match in the first 15 minutes of the second hal, and they spoilt the Somerset clean sheet when Benjamin Dovey was pulled down by Shields just inside the penalty area. Chris Alexander converted the spot kick to give Onions something to take from the contest.

Mills scored his second goal of the game just after the hour when he rounded goalkeeper Kierans and placed his shot away from the attempted clearance of Connor McCrossan.

Ratteray-Smith scored his second and Somerset’s seventh two minutes later when Shields played through for Mills, who cut back to the penalty spot to find his team-mate for the finish.

Somerset scored their final two goals in the space of three minutes towards the end. First, Coolidge Durham clipped a beautiful pass into the stride of Ratteray, and he sold a dummy to goalkeeper Kierans, who expected him to shoot. Instead, he squared for substitute striker Symonds to walk the ball into an unguarded goal.

Jadon Simmons closed out the scoring three minutes from time with a low strike from the edge of the penalty area.
