Nahki Wells was involved in two goals as Luton Town ran out easy 3-0 winners over Leyton Orient in League One last night.

After West Ham loanee Gideon Kodua had put Luton a goal ahead in the eighth minute, Wells was fouled inside the area by Orient’s Jack Simpson to allow captain Jordan Clark to double the advantage in the eighteenth minute.

Wells, who had earlier had a good chance blocked by the Orient defence, again turned provider in the 37th minute. After some great work down the left by Kodua, his cross into the box was glanced towards the goal by Wells, with the ball falling perfectly for Shayden Morris to find the net.

With the match all but over at half time, Luton manager Jack Wilshere made a number of changes in the second half with Wells being withdrawn in the 69th minute with games against Exeter on Thursday and Doncaster on Sunday fresh in the coach’s mind.

Luton’s victory moved them up to eighth in League One on 35 points, just two points outside the play-off places.

The Hatters are 12 points behind league leaders Cardiff City, who welcomed Nathan Trott back into the starting line-up for the game against Stevenage Borough.

The Bermudian goalkeeper had missed the previous two league matches, a loss to Lincoln and a win over Exeter, with a hand problem but was recalled to the team by Cardiff coach Brian Barry-Murphy.

Trott conceded the only shot on target he faced against Stevenage, who went ahead in the 57th minute as Phoenix Patterson found the corner of the net.

But Trott still ended up on the winning side after goals from Callum Robinson and Yousef Salech in the 64th and 82nd minutes propelled Cardiff to a 2-1 win.

They remain top of the league on 47 points, three clear of second-placed Lincoln City
