Dandy Town finished a fantastic week on a high after thrashing Social Club at White Hill Field on Saturday afternoon.

Just two days after beating North Village 1-0 to lift the Friendship Trophy, Town dominated Social Club to stay top of the Premier Division in their quest for a tenth championship.

Coach Jarreau Hayward, who made a number of changes to the starting XI, was impressed with his side’s display but knows tougher tests will be in store in upcoming weeks.

“The game was very encouraging,” Hayward said.

“We had guys coming into the team and off the bench and the standard didn’t drop. We are taking one game at a time with Devonshire Colts up next. That’s going to be a big one so we will recuperate especially after playing 48 hours ago.

“We will probably celebrate tonight and then business as usual next week to focus on our next opponents.”

Town were in attack mode from the opening whistle with wingbacks Adrian Trott and Eusebio Blankendal overlapping on every possible occasion. Blankendal created a golden opportunity for Town to open the scoring when his low cross found Hayden Dill alone at the back post, but the youngster side-footed wide with only Social Club goalkeeper Quinn Simmons to beat.

However, that miss would not prove costly as the league leaders scored on their very next attack from a well-taken set-piece. Social Club conceded a free kick just outside the box and Jahkari Furbert stepped up to hit a firm drive into the top right corner beyond the outstretched arm of the diving Simmons.

Despite dominating the match Town took only a one-goal lead into half time, with Social Club captain Ryan Parris instrumental in defence with some timely tackles and interceptions to keep the scoreline respectable.

Town maintained the same tempo after the restart and doubled their lead early in the second half when a diagonal cross to the back post found Dill, who controlled then slammed high into the roof of the net.

Social Club had their best chance when substitute Clay Darrell picked up the ball and fired low, forcing Town’s goalkeeper Jahquil Hill to dive to his right to palm the ball away. The rebound rolled into the path of Ari Cannonier but he skied over from close range.

Town continued to press and scored their third from another set piece as Furbert’s corner was met by the head of Social Club defender Jah-Nai Smith, whose attempted clearance glanced off his head and beyond Simmons.

Midway through the half, Parris nearly scored a consolation goal for the Angle Street team but his header skimmed the crossbar and went over.

Town substitute and regular captain Tomiko Goater closed out the scoring eight minutes from time after being put through on goal. He kept his composure to easily sidestep the advancing Simmons and tuck into the empty net to make it four.
