Leroy Lewis Jr scored the only goal of the match as St George’s upstaged Premier Division title aspirants Devonshire Colts at PHC Field last night.

Lewis struck a beauty in the 57th minute after a lovely exchange of passes with Malachi Trott. The victorious side finished the encounter with ten players after defender Jonas Schroder was sent off in the 62nd minute for denying Senoj Mitchell an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Victory for Drewonde Bascome’s side, their third of the season, eased their relegation worries, as they moved to seventh on the standings with 13 points.

As if suffering their third loss of the season and missing out on going joint top of the standings with Dandy Town was not enough, Colts, who remained on 28 points with a game in hand over their title rivals, also had Mateo Isaac shown a red card after the final whistle for using abusive language towards the match officials.

Colts started off brightly with a chance for Daniel Ball off a free kick on the edge of the box, but the ball sailed over.

Jahron Dickinson had the first scoring opportunity for St George’s as he forced Jaden Mills-Furbert to make a diving save.

Just before the half-hour mark, St George’s goalkeeper Troy Hall Jr pushed a well taken free kick from Zuhri Burgess behind for a corner kick.

Four minutes before the break, Jarazinho Bassett had one-on-one situation with Mills-Furbert, but his effort was not powerful enough to trouble the keeper.

Substitute Elisha Darrell thought he had equalised for Colts in the 79th, only for the goal to be chalked off as the nearside assistant referee had her flag up for a Jorj Dublin push on Bassett.
