Bermuda Police Service sink HMS Trent in friendly
Bermuda Police Service handed visiting sailors from HMS Trent a comprehensive 4-1 defeat at Police Field on Wednesday.
Zachary Edmund led the home team’s charge with a brace while Jonathan Wood and Chris Thompson also got on the scoresheet. Charlie Wilcox scored a consolation for the visitors.
Edmund broke the deadlock to put BPS ahead and grabbed a second to earn them a two-goal advantage at the interval.
Things got even better for the home side after the restart when Wood made it 3-0 before Wilcox pulled one back for HMS Trent FC.
The goal lifted the visitor’s confidence as they piled on the pressure in search of more goals only to be denied by the fine goalkeeping heroics of BPS stopper Kwensi Cann between the posts.
However, their fightback was stopped in its tracks when Thompson restored BPS’s three-goal cushion to put the friendly contest beyond their reach.
The HMS Trent is a Royal Navy warship headed for the Caribbean on a mission against drug smugglers and to offer support to British Overseas Territories during hurricane season. It has moored in Hamilton and can be seen on Front Street.
