Out and about: don’t let the summer slip away
Summer isn't over just yet. Before school starts and routines return, there's still time to squeeze every last drop out of the season. We asked Bermudians one simple question: What's one thing everyone should do before summer ends and why? Here's what they had to say.
Dwayne Caines: There's a few things one should do. First of all, go to a body of water. Either it's the beach, Horseshoe Bay, Elbow Beach, one of our major bodies of water. And the other one is go to North Shore and go jumping off the rocks. The water is therapeutic and it does something for your soul. It actually heals. I think the beautiful part of Bermuda is the healing power that comes from the salt water and it’s all around us. You cannot go a mile in Bermuda and not be around water. I think the properties we do not take advantage of are the healing powers of our water.
Tolu Ogunyemi: One thing that I would recommend doing in Bermuda before the summer ends is going to see a sunset. I won't say exactly where you should go, but I would say places in the Southampton area. I would say that because it’s the most miraculous, beautiful thing to do.
Nigel Richardson: I would say visit any of our public parks or nature reserves because Bermuda has so much to offer outside of just beaches. Everyone thinks of Bermuda as the pink sand beaches, sitting off getting a suntan, but our parks have so much more to offer. If you’re a nature person, there’s so much that you can see and do in our parks.
Izeya Wainwright: Before summer ends, I feel that people should go enjoy the spa. Something cute, something at Grotto, get a little brunch, enjoy the caves with a boo or something. Why? Because you need to relax. It’s hot and I know people have been working hard. So enjoy yourself at the caves.
Darren Trott: I would say going for that final dip in the water. Maybe jump off the rocks before the summer ends and it starts getting cold. Because we have some of the most beautiful beaches on the island so it's something for the visitors to take in one last time before they leave.
Javon Burt: One of the things you should do before the summer is over is go to County Game. It’s a lot of good festivities, good fun and also some good food, I might add.
Kimberly Lima: I say and for myself too, is to get out on water. It’s August 3 today and my toe hasn’t even touched the water. Get out on the water. Either it’s a boat, jet skiing or water skiing, whatever it is because we live on a beautiful island.
Terrisa “Terri K” Stewart: The one thing I recommend before the end of summer is to go to Mama Mia and get you a fish sandwich. It’s the best fish sandwich on the island and ten out of ten recommend.
