Boat catches fire in Riddell’s Bay

Firefighters and police were called to a boat fire in Warwick last night.

A Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “BFRS responded with one appliance from the Port Royal Station and a total of four firefighters.

“Upon arrival, fire crews saw a 25ft boat fully engulfed in flames which had broken away from its mooring and drifted next to a private dock in the area.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the fire using foam off the fire appliance.”

The incident happened at Riddell’s Bay at about 10.40pm.

The fire service spokesman added that the blaze was under investigation.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “There were no reports of anyone having been injured and no damage to any other property.

“Foul play has not been ruled out.

“The damaged boat was secured by BFRS staff and the area secured by police.”

The police spokesman said that Forensic Support Unit officers and a fire investigator visited the scene today “to continue inquiries”.
