More than 280 participants took part in a gruelling three-day obstacle course over the weekend, raising $30,000 for charity.

Amateur athletes had to grapple across 300ft rope traverses, clamber over buses, descend a 300ft water slide, and work their way through a Royal Bermuda Regiment assault course before crossing the finishing line.

The annual event, organised by the Triple Challenge charity, pits individuals and teams against each other for cash prizes – and the opportunity to donate to island youth charities.

The Triple Challenge held three events this year – in St George's on Friday evening, South Shore beaches and Warwick Camp on Saturday morning, and a final sprint to the finish line at Dockyard on Sunday morning.

Monies raised from this year’s event will go to the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies, Tomorrow’s Voices, SCARS, The Reading Clinic, Raleigh Bermuda, and Windreach.

The charity has had to postpone the event for the last two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but this weekend competitors were back in force.

Race director Jason Correia described the weekend as “awesome”. “It was great to hold the event again – our first since 2020 and the Covid pandemic.

“We lacked a strong international participant base, as prior to Covid, roughly 100 tourists would fly into Bermuda and take part in our one-of-a-kind race and charity event.

“Local registrations were strong, albeit down slightly on pre-Covid statistics, and as a result, the total fundraising base was down.”
