Part of a Hamilton car park has been closed to work on canal pipes underneath the structure.

A spokeswoman for the City of Hamilton said that new couplings have to be installed to pipes along the Pembroke Marsh canal, to prevent soil from seeping through and causing a blockage.

A portion of Bull’s Head car park, which was built between 1993 and 1994 on top of part of the canal, has been dug out to access the pipes.

The spokeswoman added: “We have closed off the area which we require to do this work, while the remainder of the car park can remain open.

“The latest work commenced a week and a half ago and we hope to complete this work by the end of August.”

The work has resulted in about 50 parking bays being inaccessible for cars.
